Overview
When you pursue a minor in design, you’ll take a variety of courses that cover topics such as graphic design, typography and design history. You’ll also gain exposure to design software to create stunning visual designs.
As a design minor, you’ll learn from active artists who promote collaborative, interdisciplinary and entrepreneurial thinking and practice across the department, university, community and beyond. You’ll also learn alongside students in our BFA program, giving you the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded individuals and gain valuable experience in a professional design environment.

Minors and Certificates
Peck School of the Arts minors and certificates are open to all students who have already earned or are currently seeking a bachelor’s degree. Most certificates are also open to those not pursuing a degree (non-degree students).

Undergraduate Advising
Academic advising is a collaborative process that empowers students to realize their maximum educational potential. Students are encouraged to visit the Peck School of the Arts Advising & Student Services page to meet with your advisor prior to each semester’s registration period. Advisors provide students with individualized appointments to assist with degree requirements, course selection, campus resources, college success strategies, graduation assessment, academic policies and more.

The Art & Design Minor in Design consists of a minimum of 21 art credits. 12 of the final 15 credits must be taken at UWM. Art & Design minor students must maintain an overall GPA of 2.5.

Select 6 credits of 300-level or above electives in Design from the list, in consultation with PSOA Academic Advising and Head of Design & Visual Communication. Students must be aware of the prerequisites for the 300+ level courses they wish to take. Design minor students are not eligible to take Design and Visual Communication Required Core Courses.
